Blues record derby win at Bexhill Town

(September 16, 2017)

Bexhill Town 0 - 1 Sidley United - ESFL Premier Division

Sidley United made it back to back wins in the ESFL Premier Division with a derby victory at Bexhill Town in a game where both sides finished with 10 men.

The Blues' began strongly and took the lead after 15 minutes as Arron Scrace chested down stand in goalkeeper Gary Hempe's long kick forward into the path of Sean Baldwin, who finished low into the bottom corner.

A difficult start for the home side was made even tougher when Josh Clifford was shown a second yellow card on 25 minutes for a foul, having earlier been booked for dissent.

However Sidley failed to make their numerical advantage count as Bexhill pushed hard for an equaliser, forcing Sidley into a defensive shape and effectively cancelling out the man advantage.

Two half time substitutions appeared to lift Sidley who went close early in the second period through Scrace before they also lost a man when Sam Thompson picked up a second yellow card with 20 minutes to go.

Shortly afterwards a clash between Ian May and an opponent led to both players being booked but Blues player manager John Carey, unhappy at the decision, had too much to say to the referee who dismissed him from the touchline for dissent.

Sidley held on though for the win but will come away with many areas of the game they will still look to improve upon as they continue their campaign next weekend away to St Leonard's Social.

Sidley Team: Hempe, May (Elphick), Aston, Copley, Carey (Funnell), Cole, Thompson, Cooper, Scrace, Sanderson (O'Callaghan), Baldwin.
