Blues beaten again at Robertsbridge

(October 28, 2017)

Robertsbridge United 1 - 0 Sidley United - ESFL Premier Division

Sidley United slipped into the bottom three after another disappointing performance at Robertsbridge.

Last season's 4 - 1 defeat was the Blues' worst performance of the season and they put in another contender for that accolade here as they were too often lacking in any real goal threat.

The home side took the lead after 5 minutes when some poor marking allowed the ball to be played across to Chris Phillips to slot home.

Both sides had plenty of endeavour but the lack of quality on show was apparent as goal scoring opportunities were severely lacking.

The second half introduction of Andy Garman briefly livened up the Sidley side but their best chance came from a well struck Adam Day free kick which was pushed up and over the bar by the home goalkeeper.

While Robertsbridge created extremely little themselves, it wasn't they who needed to score and Sidley did have the better of the football towards the end but sadly could not carve out any clear opportunities to equalise.

A disappointing performance and one that Sidley will have to bounce back from quickly when they take on second bottom Ore Athletic at home next Saturday in a game where the Blues must really target all three points.

Sidley Team: Hempe, May, Miller, Elliott-Noye, Cole, Copley, Day, Funnell, O'Callaghan (Garman), Scrace (Bailey), Baldwin (Carey).
