10 men Blues go down / Reserves in Saltdean romp

(October 16, 2010)

Sidley Crest

It was a mixed day for our sides. The first team hosted Seaford Town in the John O'Hara Cup and were on the end of a 1-0 scoreline.

The Blues cause was not helped by the first half dismisal of Sean Kelly, but despite this it was the hosts who were the better side creating numerous chances but failing to turn decent possesion into goals.

Kelly had returned to the side at the expense of Jack Aston after being unavailable last time out, Chris Rea also got a start at right back in place of the ill Nick Whiteman his first since returning from holiday.

The Reserves returned to league action and put another three points on the board with a thumping 4-0 victory over Saltdean United Reserves.

Danny Woodley returning from injury put the blues one up with a quickly taken free kick, the hosts were then reduced to nine men in the first half as they threatened to lose there discipline completely.

Into the second half and the blues made there numercial advantage count with further goals from skipper Dan Hill, Asher Grindle with his fourth goal of the season and a first for Nathan Tudor.

Mark Chandler made his debut for the Blues and was impressive alongside Leeroy Short at the heart of the defence and Kevin Barden also made a welcome return in the Blues colour upfront. The Reserves are back on the road again next week when they travel to Westfield.
