Contentious penalty in Blues cup draw

(August 20, 2011)

Sidley United will have to do battle with Arundel all over again after this FA Cup tie finished 2 - 2.

The Blues took the lead through Marc Munday's header after just 10 minutes and looked fairly comfortable, despite having to field defeder Carl Morris in goal.

However the game turned on a very contentious penalty, given against Paul Tuppeney for handball after a Dan Cruikshank clearance hit him. Only the referee seemed to think it was a penalty but Arundel weren't complaining as they duly equalised from the spot.

That seemed to throw Sidley and just 2 minutes after that, Arundel went ahead when a cross from the left was turned home. Sidley thought they had drawn level just before half time but Scott McDonald's goal was chalked off for offside.

After the break, an aggrieved Sidley got back on top and equalised when Scott McDonald finished from an acute angle after a Paddy Cody throw-in. Arundel were tiring and Sidley had some half chances to wrap up the win but failed to find the killer goal.

And so with Gullivers out of action due to the cricket and other local grounds unavailable, we go back to Arundel on Tuesday night in the replay to decide the tie.

Sidley Team: C Morris, Cody (Chandler), Tuppeney, Cruikshank, Spice, Brand (Hole), Agutter, Munday, Taylor, Barden, McDonald.
