Second half goals see off Sidley

(December 20, 2011)

A better performance from the Blues ultimately still failed to yield any points as East Grinstead Town came from behind to win this game in the second half.

After a slow opening quarter Sidley started to get on top of the first half with some nice passing moves and took the lead in the 28th minute when Steve Morris headed in Jason Taylor's corner. East Grinstead responded by upping their game which made for a very even first half, with Sidley just about worth their half-time lead.

East Grinstead got back on terms early in the second half when a shot by Ben Chick took a wicked deflection off a defender to wrong foot the Sidley keeper in the 54th minute. The goal seemed to revive the away team's confidence and unsettle Sidley, who started to look a bit ragged at the back. Another goal in the 67th minute from Tony Reed made Sidley's hopes of a win even more remote, although they kept going. A decent shout for a Sidley penalty for a foul on Terry Payne was denied. Grinstead made sure of the 3 points when Ben Chick got his second of the match on 74 minutes. The goal was almost chalked off after the assistant referee seemed to have flagged for offside, only to explain that he thought the ball had gone in the side netting and was signalling for a goal-kick. After a brief discussion however the referee gave the goal, which was in fact the right decision.

An improved showing from Sidley however after the defeat at Worthing United so signs for optimism for the games ahead.
