Ticehurst Match Preview

(March 09, 2016)

Sidley United return to league action this Saturday as they travel to Bell Field to take on Ticehurst.

As title rivals Old Hastonians and Eastbourne Rangers face each other on Saturday, Sidley will be keen to take advantage and strengthen their own push but know that they will have to be clinical in taking their chances if they are to come away with the points.

Sidley come into the game fresh from booking their place in the Sussex FA Junior Cup final by seeing off Woodingdean Wanderers 4 - 1 in a contest that was all but over after half an hour. A young Woodingdean side simply couldn't contain the Blues, although disappointingly Blues finished the game with 9 men after 2 second half red cards. It will be an all ESFL final as Blues will face either one of fellow league sides Crowhurst or Wadhurst United in a final to be played at Culver Road, Lancing on April 6th. With that already to look forward to it's back to league action on Saturday as the Blues look for another important win.

This match marks the first of the Blues '3rd game' against a league rival. Ironically both matches against Ticehurst in the league this season have been determined off the pitch rather than on it.

In the opening game of the season, Sidley drew 1 - 1 at Bell Field after being denied by a string of top class saves from home goalkeeper Ryan Hunt. However it later transpired Hunt was ineligible to play in the game and so Sidley were awarded the points. The return match was also awarded to Sidley as Ticehurst were unable to raise a side, that being one of two occasions they have been unable to field a team this term.

The sides did also meet recently in the Sussex FA Junior cup where Sidley were 4 - 0 winners as left back Gary Hempe scored a first half hat trick. Ticehurst come into this game bottom of the table with 3 points from 9 games. Last week they were beaten 5 - 1 by an improving J.C. Tackleway.

Ticehurst have had a tough season by all accounts but there are no guarantees as to how it will pan out on the day so Sidley will be fully focused on delivering a good performance in order to get a result.

Kick off at Bell Field is 2.00pm, so supporters are encouraged to get there in good time.
