Sidley down Crows for first win of season
(September 09, 2017)
Sidley United 5 - 1 Crowhurst - ESFL Premier Division
Sidley United recorded their first win of the new season with a comprehensive victory over newly promoted Crowhurst.
The visitors were the brighter during the opening 10 minutes but the floodgates opened as Sidley scored three goals in 5 minutes. First Sean Baldwin controlled a lifted ball forward before cooly stroking the ball into the net on 20 minutes.
Two minutes later Anthony Cooper doubled the Sidley lead with a great 25 yard strike before Cooper then grabbed a third goal when he slotted home after good work by Arron Scrace.
Not to be outdone, Baldwin grabbed his second when he followed up Scrace's blocked shot to give the Blues a comfortable half time advantage.
To their credit Crowhurst didn't let their heads drop and they were unlucky to concede a fifth goal when a mix up between two defenders allowed the ball to roll over the line on 65 minutes.
With the game effectively over Sidley will be disappointed that they lost concentration at the back as the visitors struck a consolation goal on 75 minutes to slightly taint Sidley's day but it was a small blotch on an otherwise excellent day as Sidley righted the wrongs of the previous week.
Sidley Team: Hempe, May, Aston (Godden), Copley, Carey, Cole, Thompson, Cooper, Scrace (Bailey), Sanderson (Elphick), Baldwin.
