Blues snatch draw with injury time strike
(September 30, 2017)
Sidley United 3 - 3 Sedlescombe Rangers - ESFL Premier Division
Sidley United snatched a point with an injury time strike as they drew at home to Sedlescombe Rangers on Saturday.
A breathless start saw the visitors strike in the second minute when a piece of slack marking allowed Matthew Shaw to get a strike away which deflected past Gary Hempe in the Sidley goal.
However a minute later, Blues equalised as Dan Hill cut inside and his left foot shot struck the inside of the post before rolling into the opposite corner of the net.
The Blues got on the front foot and had some more of the pressure but had to wait until the 33rd minute to get in front when some neat play on the edge of the Rangers box allowed Sean Baldwin to get a powerful low strike away which beat the goalkeeper low at his near post to give Sidley the lead at the interval.
But in the second half the Blues never got going and the visitors levelled on 72 minutes through Jack Booth after a defensive mistake by the home side. Rangers then took the lead on 79 minutes through Jon-Jo Wright.
Sidley could have gone under but showed great character and determination to take something from the game and deep into stoppage time they did just that as Baldwin, now top scorer in the league, finally converted after a scramble in the box to steal a draw.
Sidley Team: Hempe, Elphick (May), Cole (Aston), Tudor, Copley, Funnell, Cooper, Thompson, Hill (Scrace), Sanderson, Baldwin.
