Club Statement: Gullivers Development
(February 22, 2018)
Sidley United Football Club would like to make public the following statement:
In response to an article published in last week's Bexhill Observer (page 10), Sidley United Football Club wishes to make it clear that we have not accepted an offer from the developers of Gullivers of a new pitch.
This is due to the fact that the proposed pitch as it currently stands neither meets our current needs, nor is it suitable for long-term development. The lack of any proposed changing / clubhouse facilities is another reason that the offer presents as unsuitable for us. For these reasons we oppose the proposed plan.
Of course we as a club would love to return to our natural home in Sidley, where we have been an integral part of the community for over 100 years, and remain hopeful that an agreement can be reached between the developers and the Council which would allow us to do this.
Such an agreement would however need to include the provision of a pitch and facilities of sufficient size and quality as to ensure the future of football for the people of Sidley for generations to come to enjoy.
We trust that this statement clarifies our position as regards to the current proposal for housing development at Gullivers.
