Battling Blues see off Sedlescombe
(April 02, 2018)
Sedlescombe Rangers 2 - 3 Sidley United - ESFL Premier Division
Sidley United continued their good run of form to see off Sedlescombe Rangers and strengthen their grip on fourth place in the table.
With Sedlescombe's pitch waterlogged the game was moved to Hooe Rec and Sidley began well. A number of corners in quick succession eventually resulted in Josh Elliott-Noye heading them in front on 21 minutes.
As the rain fell harder Sedlescombe levelled on 38 minutes as a fortunate deflection fell for Matt Shaw and his low strike then took another deflection to beat Joe Rogers at his near post and level the scores at the break.
The Blues made a double substitution in the second half after Chris Copley picked up a hand injury but they restored the lead on 63 minutes as a clever through ball was slotted home by Lee Carey.
Sedlescombe came forward in search of the equaliser but on 84 minutes they left Sean Baldwin in too much space in the area and the Blues top scorer slammed the ball home.
That goal proved vital as Sedlescombe somehow contrived to miss a glorious chance after their striker rounded Rogers but steered his shot wide of the post. Moments later though Michael Booth controlled an excellent cross, cut in from the right and arched a shot past the dive of Rogers to reduce the arrears.
That made for a tense final few minutes as an often overly fussy referee added on almost 6 minutes stoppage time but Sidley protected the ball well to see out the win.
An important win for the Blues who should be given a lot of credit for turning in another good performance just 2 days after Saturday's excellent result.
Sidley Team: Rogers, May, Hempe, Copley (Cole), Funnell, Wells, Elliott-Noye, Scrace, Bailey (Scott), L Carey, Baldwin.
