Sidley leapfrog Rye into third with win
(April 07, 2018)
Rye Town 2 - 3 Sidley United - ESFL Premier Division
A makeshift Sidley United side moved up to third in the table as they overtook Rye Town with another impressive win.
Missing a number of regular players the Blues could have been forgiven for not finding their usual rhythm but they defied the changes as they raced into a two goal lead with early strikes from Lee Carey on 6 and James Bailey on 8 minutes.
The game looked as good as over when Rosh Wells added a third Sidley goal after 30 minutes but Rye gave themselves a lifeline a couple of minutes later as Charlie Stevens struck. Despite the setback the Blues went to the break firmly in control.
The second half saw Rye come forward determined to get back into the game but Sidley defended resolutely. The home side did manage to grab another goal through Stevens' second of the game to reduce the arrears but the Blues held on.
An excellent result for Sidley who rose to third with the win and on this recent form must be confident of a successful finish to the season.
Sidley Team: Rogers, May, Scott, Elliott-Noye, Eldridge, Kelly, Wells (Robb), Garman, Scrace, Bailey (Uttley), L Carey.
