Baldwin hits six as Sidley go top
(January 19, 2019)
Hawkhurst United 2 - 7 Sidley United - ESFL Premier Division
For the first time this season Sidley United went top of the ESFL table as Sean Baldwin struck a six goal salvo for the second season in a row.
Dominant from the off, Blues looked like scoring every time they came forward and Baldwin grabbed his first with a left foot finish on 11 minutes. Rosh Wells added a second with a low drive from the edge of the area on 26 minutes.
Baldwin made it 3 - 0 with an excellent finish on 29 minutes after a clever run from Arron Scrace but Hawkhurst got one back after a couple of deflections saw the ball land at the feet of the striker for a simple tap in.
But undeterred Sidley came back at the hosts and Baldwin grabbed two goals in the space of a minute; first beautifully controlling Lee Carey's cross with one foot before finishing with the other and then getting onto the end of a good through ball to finish low past the goalkeeper.
At half time the game was effectively won but Sidley sensed the potential for more goals. Although the tempo was slightly reduced in the second half, Baldwin scored Sidley's sixth with a terrific left foot strike high into the top corner from around 20 yards out on 59 minutes.
Carey hit the post with a strike before Baldwin then got another goal with a right foot strike which arrowed into the far corner of the net.
Right at the end though a free kick given away was glanced home by Hawkhurst to slightly taint the afternoon but it didn't detract from a terrific attacking performance from the Blues.
Sidley Team: Rogers, Scrace, Hempe, Copley (Cole), Funnell (Brockhurst), Elliott-Noye, Dadswell, Wells, Ellis (Saville), Carey, Baldwin.
