Sidley United II 8 - 3 Sedlescombe Rangers II - ESFL Division One
Sidley United II's overcame Sedlescombe Rangers II with a rampant and dominant display.in their first home match of the season.
Sidley were extremely quick out of the blocks with Alex Williams smashing the ball past the Sedlescombe goalkeeper after a lovely through ball by Graeme Stovell after just 35 seconds. One became two 10 minutes later after good work by Williams found an unmarked Sam Gilbert to slot home his second goal of the season.
Toby Clifford's pinpoint pass found Williams with his back to goal and he turned the goalkeeper and slotted into the empty net. But with Sidley three goals up, Rangers started to creep into the game as a looping header evaded Blues goalkeeper Paul Crittenden and ended up in the net via the underside of the crossbar. And a comeback looked on as Sedlescombe got a second goal soon after with a wicked deflection sending the ball looping up over Crittenden and into the net.
This sparked Sidley back into life and Williams gathered a loose ball and smashed it home to restore the two goal cushion before half time.
The second half began and once again the Blues started strongtly with some beautiful passing football. From one such move, Clifford drove towards the Sedlescombe goal and unleashed an unstoppable drive which gave the goalkeeper no chance. A triple change saw some fresh legs introduced and one such player, Dave Chasumba, slotted home a cross from Gary Hempe to notch Sidley's sixth goal.
Debutant George Rayner opened his Sidley account after some good work by Simon Tomlinson before Tomlinson himself got the last Sidley goal with a terrific curling effort. In the dying moments of the game, a mix up saw a Rangers player pulled down for a penalty which was dispatched past Crittenden as the game came to an end.
