Blues cement lead at top of table

(March 19, 2022)

Sidley United 2 - 0 Holland Sports - MSFL Premier Division

Sidley United ground out a hard fought 3 points to cement their lead at the top of the MSFL table.

With strong wind on a bone-dry pitch, Sidley started well enough and opened the scoring in the 4th minute when Paul Rogers made a strong run down the right before squaring the ball across the box for Tyler Capon to tap home

Just a few minutes later, Holland Sports had a chance of their own, forcing Sidley keeper Dan Hutchins to make a good save from a well struck shot.

After this the game settled into a pattern with Sports dropping deep and relying on hitting long balls forward, while Sidley had all the possesion but struggled to open up the packed defence.

The second half followed much the same pattern though with the wind in their favour Sidley put even more pressure on the Sports goal. However, the resilient Sports defence proved difficult to penetrate; frustrating the Sidley attack time and again.

Both Tyler Capon and Charlie Cornford created but fired their shots straight at the Sports keeper.

With just 10 minutes left Sidley finally got the second goal they had been threatening when the ball was flicked up and over the Sports keeper for Chris Cumming-Bart to nod in to seal the points from a unremarkable game.

Sidley Team: Hutchins, Featherstone, McEniry, Walker, Hickman-Smith, Elliott-Noye, Ellis, Carey, Cornford, Capon, Rogers. Subs: McCue, Cumming-Bart, Trickett.
