Late goal sinks Blues in derby
(October 29, 2022)
Sidley United 0 - 1 Bexhill A.A.C - ESFL Premier Division
A cruel, soft late goal condemned Sidley United to defeat against Bexhill A.A.C.
The Blues were missing top striker Logan Copley through injury and the lack of bite up front showed as they struggled to create many clear cut chances. The best fell to Andy Atkin who broke free of a defender but could only steer his shot into the side netting.
At the other end an Athletic side which featured several former Blues made a couple of chances but they were dealt with well by Ritchie Gray in the Sidley goal as the half ended goalless.
The second half continued in the same vein with both sides battling to get on top but neither really creating clear cut opportunities although Blues could have nicked it late on when Atkin had a clear strike at goal which went just wide of the far post.
However it was to be the visitors day as on 88 minutes a cross from the left hand side deceived Gray and slipped through his fingers and trickled into the bottom corner. Cruel on Sidley who probably deserved a point.
Sidley Team: Gray, Hilder, Hempe, Carey, Mote (Bradbury), Day, Witham, Shaw (Haffenden), Ball, Wade (Sam), Atkin.
