Blues break for Christmas with point on road
(December 16, 2023)
Sandhurst 1 - 1 Sidley United - ESFL Premier Division
Sidley United went into the Christmas break with a well earned point away to Kent based Sandhurst.
The Blues came into the game on the back of 4 straight wins in all competitions and they were on course to make it 5 when they won a penalty on 25 minutes. Tony Atkin stepped up to score from the spot and give Sidley the lead.
The hosts looked for an immediate response and hit the crossbar shortly afterwards but they were unable to find a way past a well organised Sidley defence and the Blues went in ahead at the break.
Sandhurst pushed for the equaliser in the second half and it took until the 83rd minute for them to find it. When the sides met on the opening day of the season, a late Sidley collapse saw Sandhurst take all three points but this time there was a different feel about the match.
Indeed Sidey were back in the ascendancy on 87 minutes as Joe Walsh was sent off to reduce the hosts to 10 men and Sidley felt a late winner may come their way.
However it wasn't to be and the sides had to settle for a point apiece. This result is the Blues first draw of the season and sees them move further clear of the bottom two.
Sidley Team: Gray, May, Mote, Eldridge, O'Callaghan, Jack, Carey, Copley, Ball, T.Atkin, A.Atkin. Sub: Freeman.
