Blues frustrated in derby day draw
(March 16, 2024)
Sidley United 1 - 1 Bexhill A.A.C - ESFL Premier Division
A rare out of sorts performance from Sidley United saw them have to settle for a point at home to cross town rivals Bexhill A.A.C.
The Blues have been in good form recently and began positively with Ben Eldridge turning the ball home from close range on 10 minutes to take an early lead.
But they failed to capitalise on that and saw chances to extend that lead go begging in the first half. Athletic always carried a threat and a great save from a free header from Ritchie Gray on 43 minutes preserved Sidley's lead at the break.
Into the second half and Sidley surrendered the midfield area with Athletic looking the more likely and it was no surprise when they levelled on 68 minutes after a ball forward saw Ben Ferguson chop inside and finish at Gray's near post.
Both teams battled hard with Athletic looking more likely to nick a winner but in the end it was a point apiece which probably was a fair result overall.
Sidley Team: Gray, May, Mote, Jack, Carey, Burgon, Eldridge, S.Atkin, T.Atkin, Ball, A.Atkin. Subs: Copley, Freeman, K.Atkin, Van Wyk.
