Justice served as Blues beat Westfield
(April 13, 2024)
Sidley United 3 - 2 Westfield II - ESFL Premier Division
Never have three points been more richly earned than the ones Sidley United picked up thanks to Harvey Jack's late winner against Westfield.
After the earlier match between the two sides was abandoned with Sidley 5 - 0 up after an hour, the game was ordered to be replayed much to the Blues' frustrations. However that decision proved immaterial as Sidley grabbed the three points on the pitch once again.
Sidley began with determination although suffered a setback when Ian May picked up an early injury and had to be substituted. However, they didn't let that put them off their aim and won a penalty which was converted by Cam Burgon on 20 minutes.
Westfield equalised on 31 minutes but Sidley went in ahead at the break as Burgon got his second goal of the game on 34 minutes.
Into the second period and again Westfield grabbed an equaliser on 60 minutes and the game was in the balance. However, it was the Blues who came away smiling as Harvey Jack knocked in Burgon's 88th minute corner to seal the points.
Sidley are back in action this Wednesday evening as we welcome league leaders and champions elect Rye Town to Hooe Rec.
Sidley Team: Gray, May, Freeman, Jack, Eldridge, Carey, Burgon, S.Atkin, Witham, Ball, A.Atkin. Subs: K.Atkin, T.Atkin.
