Poor Blues blow chance to move up table
(April 20, 2024)
Bexhill Town 2 - 1 Sidley United - ESFL Premier Division
A poor Sidley United performance meant they missed out on the chance to rise up to 8th in the table as they lost to basement side Bexhill Town.
With the game reversed to Hooe Rec, Sidley may have hoped to make home advantage pay against a team who had only picked up 1 win all season and lost every other match but they never got going.
Toby Fuller gave Town the lead on 20 minutes with a scrappy goal. The Blues failed to overly test the Town goalkeeper as they went in at the break behind.
The second half began with hope for Sidley as Fuller was sin-binned in the second minute but they failed to make the numerical advantage count. In fact, things got worse on 54 minutes as a free kick saw goalkeeper Ritchie Gray fumble the ball straight to Elliott Matthews who knocked the ball home to double Town's lead.
Sidley grabbed a goal back from Will Witham on 74 minutes but in truth didn't deserve anything from the game as Town breathed fresh hope in their battle to survive the drop.
Sidley Team: Gray, Freeman, Hempe, Jack, Eldridge (K.Atkin), Carey, Burgon, S.Atkin, Witham, Ball, A.Atkin (Dangerfield).
