Ham the hero as Blues down Dabs

(November 30, 2024)

Sidley United 3 - 2 The J.C Tackleway - ESFL Premier Division

A hat-trick from the returning Casey Ham helped earn Sidley United a huge three points as they closed on the pack above them in the ESFL Premier Division.

It began well for the Blues against a team they drew 4 - 4 with earlier in the campaign. Ham opened the scoring on just 5 minutes with a lovely lobbed finish over the Tackleway goalkeeper before doubling the lead after he was brought down in the penalty area and he picked himself up to slot home the spot kick on 19 minutes to double Sidley's lead.

But the Blues never do things easily and Tackleway won a penalty of their own for handball which they converted on 27 minutes to reduce the arrears. Sidley namely held on to their lead to get to half time with a goal advantage.

In the second half, both teams battled for the next important goal and it was Tackleway who levelled the scores on 79 minutes. They were level only moments though as immediately Sidley won another penalty when Archie Ball was brought down and Ham slotted home his third to restore Sidley's lead.

Tackleway battled and their defender was shown a red card in the fourth minute of stoppage time. Last season Tackleway claimed a 3 - 3 draw with the final kick of the game but there was to be no repeat this season as Sidley held on to claim the win and put some breathing space between themselves and the two sides below them.

Next week the Blues travel to in form Punnetts Town before a home tie against Sandhurst ahead of the Christmas break.

Sidley Team: Gray, L.Mote, Freeman, Hempe, Cooper, Lyne, May, S.Atkin, Ball, Robb, Ham.
