Reserves close gap on leaders
(October 24, 2010)
The reserves closed the gap on league leaders Rye United Reserves following there surprise 5-1 defeat to Bexhill United Reserves earlier on Saturday.
The Blues travelled to Westfield whom new signing Darrol Parris was manager up until wednesday of this week, so it was a good chance to take advantage of the difficult situation for the Westies following there parting of the ways.
It was the hosts who settled the better of the two sides, but it was the blues who took the lead on 13 mins when Dan Hill converted a penalty following Ben Freeman's foul on Kevin Barden which saw Kevin leave the field through injury.
Slack defending allowed the Westies to draw themselves level but Stuart Collier's cool finish shortly after meant the Blues went in at half time 2-1 to the good.
Into the second half and an early goal looked to settle the blues down thanks to Asher Grindle's 5th league goal of the season, however the Westies continued to fighback and were rewarded when Fitz Pugh headed home.
The Blues superior fitness showed as the second half wore on and further goals from Hill and Grindle wrapped up the three points and closed the gap at the top of the table.
