Last Gasp Winner sends Reserves Top
(November 21, 2010)
The Reserves moved to the top of the Reserve Section East last night after a last gasp victory over third placed AFC Uckfield, thanks to a first goal in Sidley colours for recent signing Darrol Parris.
The Blues second string went into this massive game on the back of no game last time out, whilst the hosts had been on fire in thumping fellow high flyers Little Common 6-0 the previous week.
Only three players started the game yesterday that had done two weeks previous, more evidence of how strong the pool of players is at the club this season.
Josh Elliot-Noye put the Blues ahead after 13 mins sliding the ball home at the far post from Jack Aston's deep free kick, Parris was to have a dubious goal ruled out for offside, before Ash Carey doubled the lead on 39 mins curling the ball into the top corner from just inside the box.
On a heavy and energy zapping pitch the hosts came back into the game second half as the Blues could not keep possesion as well as they did in a comfortable first half which they controlled, and they were duly undone on 59 mins as the hosts half the deficit.
Parris then had another goal chalked off when the referee who was poor throughout alleged there was a push on the defender as the ball was headed home. Sub Chris Cain could have wrapped up the points but after good work blazed his shot over.
The Blues were made to pay for not killing the game off as AFC Uckfield snatched what they though was a share of the spoils on 81 mins, but it was to be third time lucky for Parris after his previous two efforts were ruled out, as he bundled the ball home from close range from Shea Kelly's free kick in the 89th minute to the delight of everyone in yellow.
The players are no doubt aching this morning, but they showed alot of character after being pegged back and came home with a deserved three points which may prove vital come the end of the season in the race for promotion.
