Sidley win thriller to set up Brighton showdown
(January 11, 2011)
Sidley United 4 - 2 Arundel
Sidley United set up a Third Round tie against Brighton Reserves in the SCFA Senior Cup after winning a thrilling game against Arundel 4 - 2, which ended with ten against nine.
Arundel took the lead through Matt Axell cutting in and bending his shot into the top corner. Andy Hales missed a penalty for the Blues after Miles was pulled down but Sidley got well on top after that and levelled through Mark Chandler's tap in.
At the beginning of the second half Dan Spice headed Sidley in front from a free kick before Chris Rea was sent off for a dangerous tackle. Despite this Sidley continued to come forward and Spice again made it 3 - 1 with another header from a free kick.
Arundel responded almost immediately and scrambled home a second goal before losing centreback was sent off for a second yellow and his fellow central defender also saw red a short while later for something he said to the referee. Spice was denied a hat trick when a perfectly good looking goal was chalked off for a foul.
With Arundel attacking and Sidley breaking, the fourth goal came in stoppage time, Terry Payne finishing at the second attempt after his first shot was saved
