Sidley defeated by soft penalty
(March 22, 2011)
Sidley United's 7 match unbeaten run came to an end tonight as a softly awarded penalty gave Three Bridges a 1 - 0 win at Gullivers.
Both sides played some really good football first half, and Sidley came closest to taking the lead when Terry Payne's excellent volley flashed just wide. A very entertaining half, and a much better performance all round, ended 0 - 0 at half time.
In the second half, it was closely contested with the turning point coming when Chris Rea was adjuged to have felled a Three Bridges player in the area. Tom Lyons tucked the ball past Gavin Bourne to put the away team in front. Bridges then had a man sent off with 10 minutes to go for raking down Dan Spice's leg.
But Sidley couldn't fashion the equaliser and lost Terry Payne to a knee injury with a few minutes remaining. A much better team display tonight and the Blues were unfortunate to come away with nothing to show for it.
Sidley Team: Bourne, Rea (Denny), Cody, Cruikshank, Spice, Darby, McDonald. Bird, Parris, Barden, Payne (Dadswell).
