Sidley self implode at Rye
(April 11, 2011)
Discipline was again a word that reared it's ugly head as Sidley United had 3 players sent off as they went down 5 - 0 at Rye United.
Unbelievably, it was actually the hosts that had 6 players booked first, but Sidley imploded in the last 20 minutes.
Rye took the lead from the penalty spot after 15 minutes when Dan Spice tripped a Rye forward and that's how it stayed until half time. Rye's second goal came when a ball bounced back into the path of their forward, who was waved onside despite strong Sidley protests and he lifted the ball over Bourne to make it two.
Lee Jules was shown a straight red card for a late challenge, Chris Rea picked up a second yellow for contesting a refereeing decision as the official went card happy and Gavin Bourne was sent off for throwing a ball at a Rye forward who won a penalty which led to their fifth goal.
In between, Rye had chalked up their third after Sidley failed to clear their lines and a quality free kick which beat Bourne at the near post.
A very disappointing night indeed for the Blues, who need to pick themselves up and ask some serious questions before we travel to Redhill on Saturday.
Sidley Team: Boune, Mitiadou, Cody, Jules, Spice, Rea, Brand (Dadswell), Agutter, Barden (Bird), Payne, Miles.
