Brilliant Blues beat Bridges
(August 13, 2011)
Sidley United kicked off the 2010/11 season with an excellent 1 - 0 win away at title favourites Three Bridges.
The Blues had chances to score in the first half with Steve Morris smashing against the crossbar after just three minutes. Three Bridges had some good possession as the first half went along but Dan Spice and Dan Cruikshank dealt well with everything that was thrown at them.
In the second half, Sidley could have scored after just 30 seconds when Scott McDonald got through but his shot went just wide. Bridges were given a soft penalty for handball against Lawrence Brand on 66 minutes but debutant goalkeeper Callum Christie made a magnificent save to turn it over for a corner.
And as Bridges pushed forward they left room at the back. On 85 minutes Lewis Hole chased down a backpass to the home goalkeeer and the ball ricocheted to Steve Morris who slotted home. Sidley defended resolutely thereafter with Spice immense at the back.
A magnificent performance from all the team today and a great beginning to the new season.
Sidley Team: Christie, Cody, Tuppeney (Chandler), Cruikshank, Spice, Agutter, McDonald (Barden), Brand, Taylor (Bird), Hole, Morris.
