Early Blues brace enough to beat Crows
(August 16, 2011)
Sidley United hit a quickfire brace in their 2 - 0 win over Crowborough Athletic tonight at the Alderbrook Rec.
The Blues took the lead on 3 minutes when Scott McDonald wasn't tracked from a free kick and he stroked the ball home. Sidley doubled that lead on 10 minutes when Steve Morris shrugged off a defender and fired a spectacular shot into the top corner.
Crowborough rallied and Dan Spice was arguably fortunate to escape with a yellow card after a home player was heading towards the goal. The resultant free kick cannoned off the crossbar.
In the second half, Sidley had a great chance to go 3 up but McDonald could only find the side netting. Crowborough again hit the bar with a speculative effort but otherwise created little in the way of chances and Sidley comfortably saw out the remainder of the game to secure their second win of the season and go, temporarily at least, top of the County League.
Sidley Team: Christie, Cody, Tuppeney, Cruikshank, Spice, Brand (Munday), Agutter, McDonald, Taylor (Barden), Hole (Payne), S Morris.
