Another narrow win for perfect Blues
(September 03, 2011)
Sidley United maintained their 100% start to the league campaign with a narrow 1 - 0 win over St Francis Rangers.
The Blues had an ideal opportunity to go in front after just 90 seconds when the referee awarded a penalty for a push in the box but Paul Tuppeney's kick was saved by the home goalkeeper. Sidley kept coming though and after a mistake by ex-Sidley player Zac McEnery, Lewis Hole lobbed the goalkeeper only to see the ball come back off the post.
It felt like it might be one of those days but just 40 seconds into the second half, Lewis Hole turned in a cross from Jason Taylor and put the ball in the far corner of the net. St Francis kept coming and put a few shots over the crossbar as they pressured us.
Sidley didn't play as well as we can do today and they dropped deep in the last 10 minutes to protect their lead and were ultimately successful to secure a fourth straight league win with four clean sheets.
Sidley Team: Bourne, Rea, Tuppeney (Chandler), Cruikshank, Spice, Munday, Agutter, Taylor, Payne (McDonald), Hole (Brand), S Morris.
