Lancing too good for sloppy Blues
(September 13, 2011)
Sidley United slipped to their first league defeat of the campaign in a 2 - 0 defeat away at Lancing in a game the home side dominated.
The Blues came closest to scoring first when a Marc Munday header came back off the post. But after that Lancing quickly got on top and created numerous chances, with the inevitable goal coming on 43 minutes - a blockbuster strike from Sam O'Regan.
Sidley improved marginally after the break with some good substitutions but Lancing - who often overplayed the ball instead of shooting - created numerous chances to put the game to bed. In the end, the killer goal came three minutes from time, Jamie Groves finishing smartly into the corner. The Blues can have no complaints about the result and were perhaps fortunate to only concede two.
A bit of a reality check for Sidley tonight, and we will need to lift our game on Saturday to get anything from another tough looking game at home to Pagham.
Sidley Team: Bourne, Rea, Tuppeney, C Morris (Agutter), Cruikshank, Munday, Brand (S Morris), Taylor (Barden), Bird , McDonald, Hole.
