Abject Blues out of cup
(September 24, 2011)
Sidley United are out of the FA Vase after an extremely disappointing performance in a 3 - 2 home defeat to Chichester City.
Blues should have been 3 up in the first 10 minutes but good chances were again missed and Chichester made Sidley pay as Phil Archibold lashed home from the edge of the area. Sidley rallied and equalised through a well taken Scott McDonald goal before going ahead right on the stroke of half time when Marc Munday headed home a Jason Taylor corner.
But Sidley didn't turn up in the second half. Chichester equalised through Harry Bass's header from a corner. Sidley should have wrapped up the game when a penalty was given to the home side for a handball in the area but Scott McDonald's poor spot kick was saved.
And just as the game threatened to go into extra time, Dan Cruikshank hacked down a Chichester forward and goalkeeper Matt Short stepped up to slam the ball into the corner to put Sidley out.
A very disappointing performance with poor finishing and bad choices once again costing the Blues. We will face better teams than Chichester this year and we will have to seriously improve all aspects of our game if we are to avoid days like today in the future.
Sidley Team: Willis, Cody (C Morris), Tuppeney, Rea, Cruikshank, Munday, Agutter, Bird, Brand (Hole), Taylor, McDonald
