Blues and Worthing in stalemate
(October 15, 2011)
Sidley United picked up their first home point of the season but will be disappointed they failed to take all 3 as they drew 0 - 0 with Worthing United.
Blues started well and edged the first half, with Lewis Hole having the best of the opportunities. Worthing had created little. But after half time Sidley started slowly and Worthing probably edged the first 20 minutes of the second half.
Worthing would have gone in front if it wasn't for Dan Cruikshank's goal-line clearance after a Worthing forward had rounded Josh Willis. However Sidley had golden opportunities: Hole missing a header from a few yards, McDonald skewing a cutback from Bird wide and both Bird and Barden firing wide from inside the area.
Worthing were awarded a rather soft penalty on 83 minutes but Josh Willis saved well with his legs to preserve parity. Unbelievably it was the third consecutive game between the sides that finished goalless with Worthing missing a penalty.
Shooting practice required for the Blues perhaps to turn possession and chances into goals.
Sidley Team: Willis, Cody, C Morris, Rea, Cruikshank, C McDonald, Brand, White (Bird), Taylor, Hole, S Morris (Barden)
