Willis the hero as Blues win shootout
(October 26, 2011)
Josh Willis made two excellent saves to win Sidley United a penalty shoot out against Westfield in the Hastings Senior Cup.
The match had ended 1 - 1 at the end of 90 minutes with a Chris Rea penalty putting Blues in front in the first half but with Sam Willett equalising on 64 minutes for Westfield.
In extra time, Scott McDonald restored Blues' lead on 94 minutes, slotting home from a tight angle after Adam Day's shot was spilled. But Sidley gifted Westfield an equaliser when a poor challenge in the box resulted in a penalty; Willett tucking it away.
And so it went to penalties and whilst all four Sidley spot kicks were converted, Willis' 2 saves made sure of a third consecutive appearance in the final against near neighbours Bexhill United.
Sidley Team: Willis, Cody, Mote, Rea, C Morris (Cruikshank) Brand, C McDonald (Day), White, Bird (Taylor), S McDonald, Ham.
