Sidley smash four past Shoreham
(November 08, 2011)
Sidley United got the Chichester defeat out of their system by winning 4 - 0 at home to third bottom Shoreham tonight.
The Blues started slowly and Shoreham had the better of the opening exchanges but it was Sidley who went ahead on 28 minutes when new boy Bryce Masters swept home from just inside the penalty area. Sidley gained a massive advantage 5 minutes later as Scott McDonald was brought down in the area and the Shoreham defender saw red. The goalkeeper got a hand to Chris Rea's penalty but couldn't keep it out.
Sidley's third came on 39 minutes and was another bizarre moment. A cross from the right was knocked by the Shoreham defender back to the goalkeeper, who picked the ball up. An indirect free kick 6 yards out was knocked to Adam Day who drilled it low at the near post and found the back of the net.
Just 23 seconds into the second half Sidley's fourth arrived. Casey Ham charged down the left and cut inside to fire his shot in off the underside of the crossbar. Sidley took their foot off the pedal thereafter and had a Steve Morris goal-line clearance and some good Josh Willis saves to thank for preserving the clean sheet.
A much better all round display today and nice to notch a home win in the league for the first time this season with a clean sheet.
Sidley Team: Willis, Cody, Rea, S Morris, Cruikshank, Brand (Thompson), Masters, Day (C McDonald), Bird (White), S McDonald, Ham.
