Sidley suffer shootout heartache

(November 19, 2011)

Sidley United missed out on the Quarter Finals of the John O Hara cup after losing a penalty shoot out to Southwick following a goalless tie.

Blues edged the first half with a couple of good chances going begging - the best being Lewis Hole's drive just past the far post. Injuries dominated the game with Bryce Masters breaking his nose in the first half and his substitute Callum McDonald cutting his eye. A Southwick midfielder also ended the game in large bandages after cutting his head.

Second half and the extra time periods saw both sides battle but fail to create a killer opening and so it went to penalties and after Rea put Blues in front, Mark Chandler and Marc Munday both missed the target and Scott McDonald's penalty was saved to put Southwick into the next round.

Sidley Team: Willis, Rea, Mote, S Morris, Cruikshank, Munday, Masters (C McDonald, Chandler), White (Taylor), Bird, S McDonald, Hole.
