Blues beaten at the death by Worthing
(December 17, 2011)
Sidley United produced another 'Good Sidley, bad Sidley' performance within the space of 90 minutes as they conceded a last minute winner to lose 2 - 1 at Worthing United.
Sidley went in front just 8 minutes in as Alan McMinigal returned to a Sidley shirt by scoring as he cut in from the right to slot home. And despite playing the better football for the first 20 minutes Sidley went back to hitting the ball long and frantic defending as Worthing got more into the game. They equalised on the half hour mark as a Worthing United forward rounded Willis and slotted home.
The second half saw wave after wave of Worthing attack as Sidley struggled to get out of their own half. Worthing smashed the crossbar from a free kick, saw Willis make two excellent stops and missed other good chances and it seemed a case of when not if they scored. The breakthrough came 2 minutes into stoppage time as a Worthing United player was allowed to turn in the box and slot past Willis.
Another highly disappointing day for the Blues who should really have done better, especially given the first 20 minutes. Yet more frailties exposed that need to be addressed and quickly if we are to get anything from the better teams yet to face.
Sidley Team: Willis, Chandler (Ham). C Morris, Cruikshank (S McDonald), Munday, Masters, Day, Lusted (White), McMinigal, Taylor, Hole
Better news for the Sidley United Reserves who beat St Francis Rangers 7 - 1 to move off the bottom of the table in the Reserve Premier.
