Battling Blues lose out to Rye
(December 26, 2011)
Sidley United put in a battling display at Gullivers today but Rye United were the victors by a 2 - 0 scoreline.
Rye took the lead after just 3 minutes as Phil Rhodes knocked in a corner. You feared the worst but Sidley dug in and created some half chances of their own. The first half was very even and Sidley played well.
In the second half, some full blooded challenges led to some touchline altercations and the game was very scrappy. In the 67th minute Dan Cruikshank felled a Rye forward and Duncan McArthur stepped up to convert the penalty. Despite knowing the game was probably up, Sidley battled hard and competed well and caused Rye a few problems but were unable to put the ball in the net.
A much better performance and the boys should take credit for the way they played against table-topping opposition. Next up Redhill away on New Year's Eve.
Sidley Team: Willis, Mitiadou (Mote), Rea, S Morris, Cruikshank, Masters, Bird (Taylor), Short, Payne (Lusted), Barden, Ham
