Blues battle to hard fought win
(January 02, 2012)
A solitary strike from Casey Ham was enough to give Sidley United their first win of 2012 with a 1 - 0 win over Ringmer.
The first half ended a goalless affair with Sidley on top but both Lewis Hole and Terry Payne missing good oportunities to score. On a very muddy pitch both sides battled but their wasn't a high level of quality on offer.
In the second half Sidley picked up the pace and found the net in the 62nd minute. A Ringmer defender gave the ball away, the growingly impressive Bryce Masters laid the ball off to Ham whose low strike found the corner.
Hole missed a glorious chance to seal the game with around 10 minutes to go and inevitably Ringmer pushed forward seeking the equaliser as Sidley dropped deeper. But the Blues hung on for their first win since late November.
Sidley Team: Willis, Chandler (Lusted), Short (Taylor), Munday, Cruikshank, Mote, Masters, C McDonald, Payne, Hole, Ham (Bird)
