Blues lose Pilot Field friendly
(February 25, 2012)
Sidley United's Saturday off league action saw them take on Ryman League side Hastings United in a friendly at the Pilot Field which the home side won 3 - 0.
As expected Hastings controlled the play but only lead by one at the break; a penalty given away by Chris Rea in the 23rd minute powerfully converted by Lee Carey.
Sidley battled well and made numerous substitutions but clear cut chances were at a premium; the best being Jason Taylor's headed miss after a good ball in from Jared Lusted.
Hastings missed a good opportunity to go two up when they awarded another penalty after goalkeeper Joe Rogers brought down a Hastings forward but the keeper redeemed himself with a great penalty save from Carey.
On 77 minutes however Carey did make it two-nil as Hastings drove through a tiring Blues defence and he slotted home. The third came on 88 minutes as a cross from the left saw Joe Barham's looping header nestle in the corner.
A good workout for Blues though who battled well throughout and who return to league action next Saturday at home to high flyers Three Bridges.
