Lingfield claim points from Blues

(March 17, 2012)

Sidley United were unlucky to come out of a close game with nothing as Lingfield went away 3 - 1 winners.

Blues went in front on 10 minutes when the returning Kevin Barden's looping header went over the goalkeeper and into the corner of the net. Lingfield levelled midway through the first half through a soft penalty, converted by Josh Smith.

In an even first half both sides created opportunities and Blues were playing well. But just after half time they fell behind as Smith fired past Willis at the near post and high into the net.

Sidley pushed forward after that and had a sustained period of pressure. Lewis Hole had a glorious chance to equalise but slammed wide when through one on one with the goalkeeper.

And as Sidley piled forward in the dying embers of the game, Lingfield broke away and in the 94th minute a forward lifted the ball over Willis expertly to seal the win.

Unlucky on the Blues who played well and certainly didn't deserve the scoreline.

Sidley Team: Willis, Rea, Brand, J White, Cruikshank, Masters (C McDonald), Patten, McMinigal, Gould (S White), Barden, Hole.
