Gould wonderstrike seals Blues win
(March 24, 2012)
Sidley United returned to winning ways with a 2 - 0 victory over Arundel with Chris Gould's brace proving the difference.
Arundel's main goal threat Scott Tipper was forced off in the first half after picked up a knoclk and that seemed to nullify any Arundel threat to the Sidley goal. Saying that Sidley created little in the first half on a baking hot afternoon.
But after the break it took just 4 minutes for Gould to fire in his first Sidley goal. After Jason Taylor's shot was parried the ball came back to Gould to sweep home from 12 yards.
And he soon doubled his tally with a spectacular strike. The ball coming over his shoulder was met on the volley and the strike looped over James Fernandes in the Arundel goal and into the back of the net.
Allan McMinigal missed a glorious chance to make the game safe but he poked wide when clean through although it mattered little as Sidley held on with man of the match Brett Patten particularly impressive.
Sidley Team: Willis, Rea, Brand, B White, Cruikshank, C McDonald, Patten, Taylor (Hole), McMinigal, Gould, Barden (S White)
