Brilliant Blues dent Rye title bid
(April 09, 2012)
A brilliant battling performance from Sidley United saw them come away with a 0 - 0 draw that surely ends Rye United's title challenge.
In the swirling wind it was Sidley who had the better of the first half although there were little goal attempts from either side. Steve Morris playing up front did well to hold the ball up as Lewis Hole and Allan McMinigal joined in when the Blues attacked.
In the second half Rye came at Sidley and Josh Willis made two impressive saves to keep the scores level. The first a great reflex stop from a Matt McClean header and the second a fingertip save onto the crossbar from another header.
Rye threw on numerous forwards in desperation to try and win the game and on Sidley corners left as many as 5 players upfield. But they failed to find a breakthrough and the Blues held on for a well earned point which was rightly celebrated long after the match.
Sidley Team: Willis, Brand, Rea, Cooper, Cruikshank, McMinigal, Masters, Patten, Barden (Taylor), Hole, S Morris.
