Youthful Sidley downed at Westfield

A Sidley United XI were beaten 1 - 0 at County Div 2 side Westfield this morning.

Less than 24 hours after the Blues played at Raynes Park vale, a Sidley side played up at our near neighbours.

Under 18 goalkeeper Matt Dann was forced into a smart save in a first half that ended goalless but with Westfield probably shading it.

In the second half Westfield took the lead on 51 minutes when from a Sidley corner, the goalkeeper through the ball long and Gordon Cuddington ran through a static Blues defence and slotted past Dann.

With a number of young and fringe players fielded, Sidley lacked the cutting edge to really threaten the goal and 1 - 0 was how it ended. A good run out for the youngsters and game time for some others ahead of the season opener next Saturday at Worthing.
