FA Cup joy for determined Blues
(August 11, 2012)
Sidley United won through to the next round of the FA cup after a fine 1 - 0 win away at Hassocks.
With goalkeeper Matt Dann injured before the match, Zac McEnery took over in goal as Sidley reverted to a 4-5-1 formation.
The decisive moment came early in the first half as Dom Clarke headed home from a free kick, his second goal for the Blues.
Hassocks pressed in the second half and had a goal chalked off for offside, but Blues dug in and defended well and were worthy of the result. Sidley even had chances near the end to seal the win as both Matt Darby and Sam Hesmer ran through but were denied.
However, it was joy at last in the FA cup for the Blues after first stage exits in the last few years as they held on to secure a great 1 - 0 win and respond brilliantly to Wednesday's defeat.
They will now face Greenwich Borough in the next round after they overcame Hailsham Town.
Sidley Team: McEnery, Miltiadou, Rea, Cooper, Cruikshank, Agutter, Taylor (Hesmer), Darby, Clarke, Trickett (C McDonald), Gould (Miles).
