Blues go down at Ringmer
(August 22, 2012)
Sidley United suffered their second defeat of the campaign last night, going down 4 - 1 at Ringmer.
The first 20 minutes were pretty even with both teams having chances although Ringmer probably created slightly more. They took the lead through a bit of a soft goal as a forward took a pot shot from outside the area which seemed to go straight through Matt Dann. The young goalkeeper will be disappointed not to have kept that out.
Sidley however got back on level terms with the best goal of the night. A great through ball from Matt Darby put Jason Taylor in on goal and he beat the keeper to make it 1 - 1 on 43 minutes. However, Sidley went in 2 - 1 down as Ringmer were given a soft free kick when the forward made the most of a challenge on the edge of the box. From the resultant free kick, Tom Lyons was left unmarked at the back post and his header across goal found the back of the net.
Sidley might have felt they were still in the game as the second half kicked off but the match was effectively settled on 51 minutes as Dann could only parry a shot straight to the feet of Lyons who was on hand to make it 3 - 1. Sidley had chances still and both Darby and Chris Gould went close before 3 became 4 on 73 minutes as Lyons completed his hat trick from close range.
The scoreline was harsh on the Blues, who didn't deserve to be on the end of a 4 - 1 defeat, but football's all about taking your chances.
It's back to FA cup action on Saturday as Blues travel to Greenwich Borough.
Sidley Team: Dann, Rea, McEnery (Brand), Hales, Cooper, Agutter, Trickett, Darby, Taylor, Gould, Miles (Clarke).
