FA Cup Dream ended in late defeat
(August 30, 2012)
Sidley United were cruelly knocked out of the FA Cup after losing a closely fought replay against Greenwich Borough 1 - 0.
Blues had more of the game and should really have gone in at half time with the lead but both Jason Taylor and Chris Gould spurned good opportunities. Greenwich rarely threatened but had one glancing header narrowly wide of Matt Dann's post.
The second half was a more evenly contested affair and neither side really looked like scoring until the 76th minute. Sidley gave the ball away in midfield and the Greenwich forward shot early first time past Dann, deceiving the young goalkeeper.
Sidley threw more attacking players on to try and get back into the tie but the best opportunity fell at the feet of Greg Berry who shot straight at the goalkeeper.
Greenwich kept the ball in the corner as the minutes passed by and Sidley, who played well overall, went out at the second stage for the fourth time in club history.
Sidley Team: Dann, Rea, Cruikshank, Cooper, Brand (Bird), Rose (McEnery), Darby, Taylor, Gould (Berry), Trickett, Payne.
