Early promise but no reward
(September 08, 2012)
Sidley United started brightly but ultimately another defensive collapse saw them lose 5 - 1 at Shoreham this afternoon.
Sidley took the lead on 11 minutes through Matt Darby and the returning Kenny Pogue had a hat-trick of glorious chances to extend the lead but squandered them all.
And his profligacy in front of goal cost the Blues as Owen O Callaghan equalised from a corner and then steered Shoreham into the lead before Kevin Rose turned into his own net to make it 3 - 1 to Shoreham at half time.
Another Shoreham strike early in the second half effectively sealed the game. Still chances fell Pogue's way but his shooting boots were not with him today as he spurned another 1 on 1. A late fifth strike sealed the win for the hosts and condemned Sidley to another crushing defeat.
We can't hope to win football games if we concede goals as easily as we did today, especially if we don't convert our chances. Hopefully we can build for Tuesday's trip to Hailsham.
Sidley Team: Pelling, McEnery, Rose, Brand (Bird), Cruikshank, Agutter, Darby, Taylor (Barton), McMinigal, Clarke (Gould), Pogue.
