Own goal costs Sidley win
(October 06, 2012)
Sidley United drew 1 - 1 at home to Selsey today in a game played on a very tricky pitch.
Sidley had the better of the first half and were soon creating chances, but the final ball let them down at times. The pitch was very muddy and players were losing their footing, making it hard for both teams to play football.
Sidley got in front on 34 minutes when an Andy Hales shot deflected off a Selsey defender and landed at the feet of Jason Taylor, who scooped the ball over the goalkeeper and into the net. Sidley failed to build on that lead though and went in at half time 1 - 0 up.
Sidley's second half performance wasn't quite as strong as the first half and Selsey got back into the match. Their equaliser also had a slice of luck about it as a shot across goal hit the leg of Jack Cooper and trickled past Matt Dann into the net.
Selsey were temporarily on top and a fine Matt Dann saved prevented them from going in front but Sidley had the best chance to win it late on - Dom Clarke's header coming back off the crossbar.
Both teams pushed hard for the winner but in the end had to settle for a point. A good performance from Sidley overall, but a slight feeling of two points dropped at the end.
Sidley Team: Dann, Mitiadou, Rea (McEnery), Cooper, Cruikshank, Agutter, Darby, Willett, Taylor, Hales, Clarke.
