Blues beaten at Lancing
(November 03, 2012)
A battling performance from Sidley United went unrewarded as they lost 2 - 1 at Lancing.
The Blues fell behind to a soft early goal as a ball crossed in from the right was missed by a Sidley defender allowing Jamie Strong the chance to get a toe on it and poke it past Greg Nessling. A soft goal for Sidley to concede.
After that early setback, the Blues got back into the game, albeit without creating many opportunities. The closest anyone got to adding to the score was a Lancing striker who forced Nessling into a fingertip save to push the ball round the post.
In the second half, the match was very even until Lancing bagged a second goal on 62 minutes. A right wing cross was allowed into the Sidley box and Danny Gainsford powered home the header.
That galvanised Sidley who responded almost immediately with Andy Hales smashing an opportunist shot off the crossbar. Sidley made a couple of substitutions and late on Ben Barton slotted home after the ball ricocheted around in the box. Sidley applied pressure over the last couple of minutes but Lancing held on for the win.
Next up for Sidley is a long trip to Selsey next Saturday in the league before we welcome East Preston in the John O Hara cup.
Sidley Team: Nessling, McEnery, Rea (Barton), Cruikshank, Agutter, C McDonald (Rose), Vinall, Hales, Taylor, Clarke.
