Late goals earn flat Sidley the win
(November 17, 2012)
Two late goals from Ricky Martin and Kevin Rose earned Sidley United a scarcely earned 2 - 0 victory over Dorking Wanderers.
Dorking definitely had the better of the first half and hit the crossbar with a header and the post when a miskick by Chris Rea allowed the Dorking striker to shoot from the angle. They also lobbed an effort just wide right on the whistle as an otherwise drab first half ended goalless.
Sidley's second half substitutions made a bit of an impact and we began to get more involved in the second half but it was Dorking who had the ball in the net first following some controversy. A clear Sidley throw was given Dorking's way and they broke forward and after a first shot was saved by Nessling in the Sidley goal the forward who tapped in from almsot on the line was given offside.
Sidley recovered from that and somewhat against the run of play took the lead. A good ball through saw Ricky Martin through on goal and as the goalkeeper came out of his area, Martin maintained his composure to round the goalkeeper and slot home from a tight angle. That goal gave us a lift and we got a second goal just 5 minutes later as a Jason Taylor corner from the right was headed into the top corner by Kevin Rose.
The match was more or less killed off by that goal and Sidley saw out the result to take a valuable 3 points that puts us up into the top half of the table.
Sidley Team: Nessling, Cooper, Rea, Radley, Cruikshank (Willett), Agutter, Martin, Hales (Darby), Taylor, Rose, McEnery (Boyd).
