Tired Sidley beaten at home

A rusty Sidley United ran out of steam in the second half as they were beaten at home by Ringmer in their first game for a month.

The first half was a fairly even affair, with both sides struggling to create any quality football on a very sticky pitch. It was Ringmer who had the better of the half though, albeit with not many scoring opportunities created.

The bulk of the drama came in the second half as firstly Sam Willett hit the bar out of nothing for Sidley when his shot held up in the wind. A Sidley penalty appeal on 56 minutes was waved away and almost immediately Ringmer took the lead as a ball in from the right saw Marc Whiteman connect sweetly with it and find the back of the net.

One became two with a soft goal on 61 minutes as a shot blocked bobbled around in the Sidley area and Matt Percival's lofted header looped over Nessling and into the net. Ringmer were then awarded a penalty for a foul by Cruikshank in the area but Nessling saved a weak penalty low to his left to keep Sidley in the game.

Sidley thought they gave themselves a sniff of getting something from the game on 89 minutes when a ball in found Andy Hales who's deft finish wrong-footed the goalkeeper but just a minute later a long range strike from Scott Marshall sealed the win for Ringmer.

Nice to be back to playing but not the result or performance Sidley were hoping for. Next up for the Blues is a trip to Horsham YMCA on Saturday.
